WELCOME TO UMRAN.

11 04 2008

Since the beginning of civilization, humans have taken the responsibility as stewards of the land – to nourish the earth not only by managing the lands and living things, but to create an environment conducive to live.

‘Umran’, a term used by Ibnu Khaldun to describe civilization, brings the context of physical and intellectual aspects of human being.  This is synonymous and parallel to the theme of the conference, “Prospering the World”.  In this conference, contributions in environmental design, as well as the concept of stewardship, are coming together on one platform.

CONFERENCE OBJECTIVES

  • To encourage intellectual improvement and promote exchange of ideas, as well as developing mutual understanding, on the concerns of environmental design
  • To bring together researchers and practitioners in all areas of Environmental Design and Built Environment: Landscape Architecture, Environmental Planning, City Planning, Architecture, Engineering, History & Civilization, Park Planning, Construction and Industrial Designers, to gather visions and solutions to further grow and develop the world through environmental design
  • SUB-THEMES

    Climate Change & Global Warming

    • The contribution of urbanization, mass development and tourism to the issues of climate change and global warming, particularly on how it has impacted the different types of regions in the world and the diverse environmental design solutions needed.

    Sustainable Development & Livable City

    • As living is a major part of any civilization, humans should give added values to the land on which they began their settlement, to ensure the living heritage prospers for the new generations.

    Conservation of Heritage

    • The needs to restore and sustain physical, natural and cultural footprints as benchmarks for us to work with, and coming up with new ways to prolong the civilizations.

Technology & Stewardship of the Earth

    • With the changing and advancement of technologies, we need to understand the creations better, and push the boundaries of knowledge to positively intervene and enhance these processes.
